Coming and goings at Disney’s waterparks

There will be some rather significant changes coming soon at Disney’s waterparks as we wave ‘Goodbye’ to Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon and ‘Hello’ to the brand new ride, Miss Fortune Falls, coming in early 2017. The waterparks at Disney are hugely popular and have rides for all ages or are perfect for a chill-out day.

Shark Reef Farewell

This snorkelling attraction has been long been rumoured as a potential closure but it has been confirmed this will take place on October 2nd. Always a popular attraction, Shark Reef made for a unique experience but it has encountered a number of extended closures and therefore was challenging to operate as well as being incredibly expensive to run. The cold temperature of the water was a common complaint from guests as well as the short nature of the experience.

No announcement has yet been made as to the future of the location but it is reported to be the venue of a completely new development at ‘some point in the future’.

Miss Fortune Falls at Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is set to undergo an extended period of refurbishment with construction beginning on the new Miss Fortune Falls ride expected to open in March 2017. The story behind the 2 minute long ride focuses around Captain Mary Oceaneer, who got stranded at Typhoon Lagoon. Guests take in a story driven journey before a white-water adventure where they can see treasure collected on her many treasure hunts around the world. No date for actual launch has yet been given but it certainly sounds like great fun.
